Also referred to as the subsoil. Usually light in color, dense and with little organic matter. The minerals and nutrients (e.g., salts clays, iron and aluminum compounds) leached from the layer above (the A horizon or topsoil) accumulate here, making the B horizon the zone of accumulation. <
