Organic Loading
The amount of organic material, typically measured as Biochemical Oxygen Demand, released into a wastewater treatment system. Expressed as weight per unit time per unit surface area. Excessive organic loading of the septic tank (e.g., as a result of heavy garbage disposal usage) necessitates more frequent pumping; excessive organic loading of the leachfield (e.g., as a result of solids carry-over) can result in system failure. <
