Vacuum Sewer

A type of Alternative Sewer, vacuum sewers rely on the suction of a vacuum, created by a central pumping station and maintained in the small-diameter sewer main pipes, to draw and transport wastewater through the system to final treatment. Vacuum sewers can be designed to suit a variety of site conditions, but have limited capabilities for transporting wastewater uphill (usually a maximum of 15 to 20 feet), so are best suited for areas with flat or gently rolling terrain. <
