Pretreatment

The first stage of wastewater treatment in which solid materials (e.g., greases, oils, toilet paper, organic matter) are allowed to separate. Pretreatment methods include the septic tank, trash tank, grease trap and other settling units. Pretreatment must always be followed by additional biological treatment, either by an advanced treatment unit or a properly sited final treatment and dispersal option. <
